The huipils are woven on a back strap loom, I purchased these huipil in 1971 from a friend and rebosos vendor, that attended a fiesta in Igualapa Guerrero that year. The distinct brocaded figures represent animals and pre Hispanic designs. I have shown photos of these huipil to various collectors and anthropologist including a cultural expert from the State of Guerrero’s offices in Mexico City. All agree that these huipils are from Metlatonoc. Since I have not confirmed this in the town itself I will leave it classified as huipil type 3 in this study. |
