Santa Maria Huazalingo is a small village located on a dirt road, downhill from the municipal capital of Huazalingo. The textile tradition is still alive with at least two or three generations wearing embroidered blouses.

Santa Maria is located on a steep downhill dirt road from San Juan Huazalingo. The anthropologist Sofia took me there and, after speaking to the village leader, we went around the village. The blouses were mostly red with smocking and embroidery. The sister of the village leader and Maria Juana participated in the photo shoots. The third on the top is a long-distance shot of a common well were the women bathe. The composite shot shows the developments going on in the village. The town had a larger number of women that wore embroidered blouses but the younger generations had switched to modern clothing. The traditional bamboo and palm houses are common in the town and are very functional in heat. Coffee is grown in the region. |
